Caring For Your Purchase

REMINDER – many of the products you have purchased from this website were made by hand, and also painted or etched by hand. So please follow the steps listed below for your particular item.

Care of Pewter:

Today's pewter does not tarnish and will keep its luster with a minimum of care. It should be washed in hot soapy water and dried with a soft cloth. Never put pewter items in a dishwasher.

If through neglect it has become dull, clean with a metal polish prior to washing. Always polish in straight lines, not in circles, for best results.

Care of glassware:

Taking a few moments to care for your glassware will help keep it brilliant and clear throughout a lifetime of use. We recommend the following care:

Do not expose to rapid temperature changes or extremes of temperature.

Do not place in the microwave, oven, dishwasher, or freezer.

For best results, avoid contact with metal utensils when stirring or serving.

Store your glassware right side up; do not stack vessels.

Avoid contact with hard or abrasive materials.

Avoid packing glassware in newspaper or other moisture-absorbing materials for long periods of time; soft cloth or bubble wrap is preferable.

Cleaning your glassware:

Hand wash using a non-abrasive cleaner in warm water.

If stains appear on the vessel, gently rub with half a lemon, wash with vinegar, or soak the interior with powdered dentifrice dissolved in lukewarm water.

To dry, use a soft, lint-free cloth, or air dry.

To avoid scratching, dust with a soft, lint-free cloth dampened in a mild solution of 1-part ammonia to 3-parts water.

Cleaning your decanters or absinthe fountains:

Hand wash using a non-abrasive cleaner in hot water.

To wash the inside of decanters or fountains that you cannot get your hand or washcloth into. Mix 1/2 part white vinegar and 1/2 part warm water, pour into decanter top until full and let set for several minutes. Then rinse the inside of the decanter with hot water, remove both the stopper on top and the faucet in the side of the vessel. Repeat until inside is clean. Leave vessel upright on its stand and let air dry. Rinsing with hot water will keep water spots from forming on the inside of the vessel. IMPORTANT, DO NOT USE a dish cloth on the end of a utinsel handle or a narrow wash sponge on a stick handle.  This could scratch the inside of the vessel or break the figurine on those decanters with figurines integral with the glassware.

Replacement stoppers and faucets are available for all decanters and absinthe fountains. Contact Exclusive-Barware.com by email for replacement parts.
